Complex Corrosion

Effective UHR analysis in scenarios where a lot is happening.

Ultra-High Resolution (UHR) In-line Inspection (ILI) from ENTEGRA® brings a whole new dimension to POD, POI and sizing (POS) of complex corrosion. With more detailed sensing and experienced data analysis, our UHR ILI services help minimize risks and mitigate integrity threats, while allowing operators to prioritize remediation activities, save CAPEX dollars, and optimize throughput. ENTEGRA UHR ILI visualizes complex corrosion in ways that were previously thought next to impossible.

What is Complex Corrosion?

Complex corrosion occurs when metal loss groups interact with one another or with other pipeline features or anomalies. This interaction of multiple factors is what makes the corrosion “complex.” Complex corrosion comes in many forms, including pits-in-pits, metal loss interacting with the long seam, mechanical damage, puddle welds, corrosion inside a casing and more, as illustrated in our image gallery. Properly diagnosing and characterizing complex corrosion requires robust, detailed data and an experienced data analysis team.

Complex Corrosion Scenarios

Complex Corrosion Scenarios

A prime example of complex corrosion is pits-in-pits, or pinholes appearing inside a larger area of light metal loss. These tiny anomalies pose one of the leading threats to pipeline integrity and are extremely difficult for competing ILI systems to see. ENTEGRA’s UHR ILI technology is fine-tuned to detect individual anomalies down to 3 mm in size at greater than 20% depth. This allows us to “zoom in” to see pits-in-pits, even when they present on the long seam. ENTEGRA brings the right technology—and an experienced team capable of interpreting the data—for approaching these extremely consequential anomalies.

It is crucial to have the right technology, and the right team, on your side when approaching these consequential anomalies.
