It can be challenging for competing MFL ILI systems to correctly assess reconditioned pipe, especially corrosion interactions with puddle-welded pipe. The “shoulder” of the puddle weld is actually metal gain, but generates a “dip” in the magnetic flux, causing automated sizing algorithms to misclassify puddle welds as corrosion, resulting in many unnecessary digs. ENTEGRA’s proprietary analysis process, combining human-based decision making with state-of-the-art technology, is known for being best-in-class at detecting, correctly classifying, and sizing complex situations, including puddle weld corrosion interactions.
